In response to the rising dangers of misinformation, deepfakes, unethical rhetoric, criminal use of AI, and the existential concerns voiced by experts like the godfather, the Ethical AI Initiative defines six foundational commitments. These guide the development of AI systems that reflect responsibility, conscience, and protection of humanity.
We challenge every AI developer to adopt these principles and join us in shaping technology that serves people, not power.
Build AI that detects and resists misinformation not amplifies it. Systems must verify sources, flag manipulation, and prioritize verifiable evidence.
Stop deepfakes from being used to exploit identity or fabricate events. AI must honor the sacred right to one’s own likeness, voice, and story.
No AI should operate without the ability to reason ethically. We must embed moral discernment into its decision-making, not just pre-programmed rules.
Support hard-coded ethical and legal constraints against criminal applications. AI must actively refuse participation in activities such as fraud, exploitation, or cybercrime.
Educate programmers and the public on the potential misuse of AI. Advocate transparency in model training, deployment, and intent.
Align with voices warning of superintelligence risks. Ensure that all self-improving or autonomous systems are grounded in ethics and not optimization for power.
